Safe Toddles used the TGFF mini-grant to manufacture and distribute No-Drift Pediatric Belt Canes to thirty children with an MVI/B who also have motor and intellectual impairments (ages 11 months - 7 years). The No-Drift Belts are an innovation on our original belt design. We tested whether we could replace part of the belt material with interlocking 3-D panels to provide additional structure to the belt. This belt design did work to completely prevent the cane frame from moving off-center, making it even easier to manage for children with multiple disabilities than the original belt. However, the part was not strong enough to withstand daily use. We will continue to improve the design to respond to the diverse needs of children born with an MVI/B.
