Apply for a Reduced-Price Pediatric Belt Cane
At Safe Toddles, our goal is to make sure every child with a mobility visual impairment or blindness can walk safely and independently.
Because the Pediatric Belt Cane is recognized as both a medical necessity and an educational necessity, families are required to first pursue existing funding options before applying for a reduced-price device through Safe Toddles.
Step 1: Apply for Funding Through Insurance or Your Child’s School
Medical Funding (Insurance):
The Pediatric Belt Cane qualifies as an Assistive Technology Device (ATD) and Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
We ask that you first submit a claim for reimbursement through your child’s health insurance provider or Medicaid.
If your request is denied, please keep a copy of the denial letter—this documentation is required for Safe Toddles to consider your reduced-price application.
Educational Funding (School District):
Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), schools must provide Assistive Technology Devices when they are necessary for a student to safely access their educational environment.
We ask families to request that the Pediatric Belt Cane be added to their child’s IEP or IFSP as an assistive technology device.
If the school declines to include the device or refuses funding, please request written documentation of that decision.
Step 2: Apply for the Safe Toddles Reduced-Price Program
Once you have received a denial letter from insurance and/or your child’s school, you may apply to Safe Toddles for a reduced-price or free Pediatric Belt Cane.
We will review your documentation and contact you to discuss next steps.
Safe Toddles’ Commitment
We understand that navigating funding systems can be challenging. Our team is here to help guide you through the process and ensure that every child who needs a Pediatric Belt Cane has access to one—safely, confidently, and affordably.
