Trick or Treat, Belt Cane Edition! 🎃

Halloween is almost here—and that means costumes, candy, decorations, and lots of places to go!

For children who are blind, Halloween comes with a pretty great costume advantage:

You can completely cover your eyes! 👀🎃

No need to worry about seeing through the mask. No need to leave a gap so you can peek out. Go ahead—be the mummy, the monster, the superhero, the princess, the pumpkin, the ghost, or whatever makes you smile.

But there is one important Halloween rule:

Keep the ears uncovered.

Those ears are working hard on Halloween night!

Kids need to hear the grown-up saying, “Trick or treat!” They need to hear the door open, the candy dropping into the bag, the voices of family and friends, the sounds of other trick-or-treaters—and all the other information that helps them know what is happening around them.

And while we're talking about Halloween mobility...

The Belt Cane is part of the costume!

The Belt Cane is part of the costume plan—Put it on. Check the fit. Make sure the frame is positioned correctly. Then let your little trick-or-treater get moving!

The Belt Cane provides extended touch feedback ahead of the child, helping them detect what is in their path while they use their other senses to figure out where they are going.

Because Halloween isn't just about collecting candy.

It's about getting to the places you want to go.

And there are a LOT of places to go on Halloween!

Experience all the different ways to find the front door of a house and how to make sure you get your share of the candy!

✔️Locate the path

✔️Follow to the stoop/step

✔️Locate the door

✔️Knock

✔️Yell Trick or Treat and hold out your bag

✔️if they say help yourself, reach your hand out to find the bowl and practice scooping into your bag!!

🎃 Costume Ideas: Belt Cane Edition

Looking for a costume that works especially well with a Belt Cane?

Try:

🤖 Robot — Go ahead and cover the eyes completely. The Belt Cane can be part of your futuristic mobility equipment!

🦸 Superhero — Every superhero needs the right equipment. The Belt Cane is one more tool for getting where you want to go.

👑 Royalty — Crown? Check. Cape? Check. Candy bag? Check. Belt Cane? Absolutely.

🧟 Zombie — Walk, shuffle, or run your way from house to house. Just don't forget your Belt Cane!

And remember: the best costume is the one your child chooses.

🍬 The Most Important Costume Accessory: A BIG Candy Bag

Let's be honest.

The real Halloween challenge isn't getting around the neighborhood.

It's where to put all that candy.

So choose a bag that is:

✔️ Big enough for a serious candy haul

✔️ Easy for your child to carry

✔️ Not so long that it drags on the ground

✔️ Easy to open and reach into

✔️ Compatible with the Belt Cane

Because nobody wants to discover halfway through trick-or-treating that their candy bag is full.

That's an emergency. 🍫😂

Trick or Treat—Belt Cane Edition!

Before heading out, check the Halloween checklist:

Costume? ✔️

Candy bag? ✔️

Belt Cane? ✔️

Ears uncovered? ✔️

Candy bag big enough? ✔️

Ready to go? ✔️

Then head out and have some fun!

Halloween is full of sounds, textures, people, doors, sidewalks, decorations, laughter—and, of course, candy.

Give your child the mobility tools they need to take part in all of it.

Keep the ears open. Put on the Belt Cane. Fill the biggest candy bag you can find.

Then...

Trick or treat! 🎃🍬

Happy Halloween from Safe Toddles!
